Great Ideas for Climbing Plants

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Morgan Hamilton A few months ago, I decided to install trellises against the east and west sides of my home. I put in an arbor over the walkway area that leads to my garage as well. This way I can enjoy some of the climbing plants that I have seen at the local nursery. The owner of the nursery had several trellises with various climbing plants on them at the nursery. I made a trip to the nursery to find which plants would do best in the areas I had chosen after I installed the support. The owner described the light and water conditions that each of the plants require. She also told me about how quickly they grow. I was glad that the owner was able to give me some of her time because there are so many plants to choose from. I explained to her that I was after climbing plants that would stay confined to the trellises and not climb the side of my house. After talking with the owner of the nursery, I decided on a flowering plant for the trellises. These flowering climbing plants will bloom from late June until late September. I have to trim the vines to about 18 inches in height in the fall of the year. The plants will not take over the side of the house if I control their growth each year. Grape vines were my first choice for the arbor but I decided that I do not want the work that goes with planting the fruited vines. As a result, I planted morning glories in a variety of colors on the arbor. These climbing plants offer beautiful blossoms and green shiny leaves. In the present, the climbing plants I planted are already blooming and adding a wonderful splash of color to the side of my house. The areas that had seemed very plain and bland before are now very colorful and alive. Im glad that the plants have required no maintenance other than watering. Im planning to add other varieties along the privacy fence that is in the back of my property because I am impressed with the looks of my climbing plants. I am considering the variety that spreads more readily for the fence. The nursery owner had pointed out several wood vines that would be a nice addition to the fence area. She also mentioned that the more woody plants are heavy so a strong support system is needed. Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning Climbing Plants. Using Homeopathy to Control Asthma

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Philip Nicosia Asthma is a chronic condition that affects millions of people all over the world. Studies show that 1 in 7 children, and 1 in 12 adults, suffer from asthma. Thought the severity of the attacks can varyit can be mild and easily treated, or lead to weeks of hospitalizationanyone who suffers from the condition can testify to how it can impair their quality of life. In an asthma attack, our ability to breathe in air is hampered, due to the tightening of muscles in the air passage, swelling, and thick mucus. The attacks are triggered by pollen, smoke, even food allergies (each person has its own set of asthma triggers) and are characterized by wheezing, coughing and tightness in the chest. Many asthma sufferers have found relief in herbs and other homeopathic treatments. For example, khella (also called Bishops Weed) helps prevent the tightening of the air passages, and there are cases of it actually opening the airways. However, dosages have to be controlled by a homeopathic expert, especially for children. The herb is best used over a short period of time, since overextended intake can lead to loss of appetite, headaches, and difficulty sleeping. Another asthma treatment makes use of the ancient Chinese herb, Ma Huang (also called Desert Herb). While not recommended for those who have heart disease and high blood pressure, it has been known to reduce the bronchospasms that cause difficulty in breathing. Because of the risks associated with his herb, it should be taken only with the directions of a homeopathic expert, and the approval and co-management of your regular physician or respiratory specialist. This is because Ma Huang has some contraindications, and interactions with other prescribed drugs can be dangerous. However, with the proper monitoring and in the right doses, it can help with the most severe forms of asthma attacks. Like with many asthma medications, people who take Ma Huang can experience side effects like palpitations and restlessness, or mild nausea to actual vomiting. This is, unfortunately, a function of how medicines (whether traditional antibiotics or herbal) must contain some amount of ephredine or a similar drug that can counter or protect the bodys loss of oxygen. Another herb that can control asthma is the Pleurisy root, a liquid extract of the plant Asclepias Tuberosa. It is an expectorant and can help decongest the patient and ease the difficulty in breathing. Doses must be closely monitored, however, because it can lead to vomiting if not properly prescribed. It is also not recommended for those who have heart problems. Homeopathic experts can also help asthma sufferers examine diet and lifestyle for any asthma triggers, or sometimes they will prescribe vitamins and herbs, or recommend a particular diet, that can help strengthen the lungs. In other words, their approach is holistic, and does not only cure the symptoms but prevents the attacks from occurring. Many asthma sufferers can lead perfectly normal lives as long as they can create a lifestyle or routine that minimizes their risks for attacks. Farm Fresh Flowers

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Steve Valentino For those who love flowers, they splurge a considerable portion of their fortunes in decorating every corner of their homes and offices. And when it comes to choosing flowers, be it Orchids, Roses, Red and White Tulips, White stargazers red, Stargazer lilies et al, the prime consideration is freshness. No wonder every florist in town promises or offers the freshest flowers. And why not, the technology to preserve flowers longer is here. Whether it is your local florist or your online flower vendor, everyone is making a beeline for flower farms the world over. The reason is simple, the exotic the flower, the priceless it is. With no dearth in demand from homes, offices, star hotels, resorts and restaurants alike, more money is being pumped into by farm owners and to introduce new technology to deliver farm fresh flowers to any corner of the world within the shortest time span. Roses grown in India are much in demand in the US and European markets during peak seasons such as Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day etc., so much so that the domestic market supply becomes critically low. Same is the case with exotic flowers and foliage from other South-Eastern Asian countries and countries from various parts of Europe. World’s best and biggest courier agencies work extra hours to meet emergency deadlines. Specialist packers move in to give the buds the extra life. The world’s biggest insurance agencies are involved, and big time money changes hands across the continents. For if it is not delivered fresh, its better it is not delivered at all. The price of farm fresh exotic flowers starts somewhere around USD 50 for a small bouquet and the top price goes over USD 100, depending upon the flower, origin, longevity and freshness level. During peak seasons, these become priceless commodities. Fresh Flowers provides detailed information on Fresh Flowers, Fresh Cut Flowers, Fresh Flower Arrangements, Wholesale Fresh Flowers and more. A Technique to Get the Most Out of Fat Burning Diets

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Rusty Moore I don’t believe that there is a clear cut ideal fat burning diet that works for everyone. I do believe that there are several fat burning diets that are very effective. What if there was a way to get a head start and drop 15-20 pounds quickly before choosing any of the fat burning diets on the market? Your Body is Capable of Losing 15-20 Pounds Over a Two Week Period Crash dieting when done over a short period of time is very effective. It isn’t something that is recommended over the long term, but it the fastest way to burn fat over the short term. You can eat very low calories for 14 days or so before your body adapts and your metabolism slows down. Again…this is just something that must be done no longer than 14 days. Crash Dieting is Even More Effective than Cardio Exercise at Burning Fat This was a hard one for me to swallow, since I’m an exercise junkie. Let me explain how this works. If you body burns 2,000 calories a day and you only ingest 600 calories, you just created a 1,400 calorie deficit. You would have to jog on a treadmill for 2 1/2 hours to burn the same amount of calories. It is simply easier to create a large calorie deficit from your diet than it is from exercise. Note…I am just talking about the short term here, in the long term cardio is very effective at burning body fat. A Radical and Simple Crash Diet to Follow Before Your Fat Burning Diet 1) You only allow yourself to ingest 600-800 calories each day for two weeks 2) Make sure and take multivitamins during this time 3) Avoid fat and sugars 4) Eat about 100-150 Grams of Protein 5) Drink as much Green Tea and Coffee as you want 6) Drink plenty of water Burn More Fat in Two Weeks Than Most People Do All Year I normally do this every year, right around the middle of May. I keep myself around 8% body fat most of the year, but this allows me to get super-ripped for summer. I usually eat nothing but a skinless chicken breast in the morning and one more for lunch. When I get hungry throughout the day, I’ll consume a large amount of Green Tea. For dinner I will chop up a bit of cabbage and chicken and mix with chicken broth to make a soup (chicken broth is very low calorie and tastes great). I also add cilantro, jalapenos, onions, and celery to this soup. This is all I eat for two weeks. It isn’t fancy, but I’m telling you…your body will visually get leaner each and every day. It is very rewarding to see such fast results! Saving Money When You’re Eating Out

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Lisa Hallman Most of us can’t usually say, that eating out is economical, but we all do it at least sometimes. Whether you eat out at your local McDonald’s or a you head for the nearest Swiss Chalet. JUNK MAIL IS NOT ALWAYS USELESS First of all if you live in an apartment, don’t just throw your junk mail out, sometimes there are coupons for your local fast food places like Subway, Mr. Sub, Pizza Hut, KFC and more it only takes a second to look. Secondly if you plan on eating out or it’s a possibliity, keep them in a location like in your car, or in your bag. The last thing you want, is to remember you have a coupon, and realize it’s at home. Although you can get these in houses too, there seems to be a greater amount of promotional coupons handed out to apartments and most of all, a lot of people throw out their coupons in the trash, and you can get more from your recycling bin in your apartment mailroom. I sometimes smile to myself, knowing that there are sometimes, completely free items you can get from these coupons, without purchase. They are usually coffee’s or fries, sometimes even smoothies or shakes. RESTAURANT MAILING LISTS A lot of casual dining restuarants often have mailing lists online that you can subscribe too. They often send out specialized coupons only for subscribers, that allow you to save a specified percentage, get a free appetizer or other special deal. The catch is that you have to subscribe. You can find these mailing lists by searching with Google or your search engine of choice for the restaurant you are interested in saving at and seeing if they have a Canadian website. If they do, go there and check to see if they have any special club, mailing list, or other sort of promotional list for which you can subscribe to and subscribe to it. DAY ONLY SALES, AND LOCAL DEALS There are restaurants that have specials on certain days, or days where kids eat free, or days where the second entree is half price. It pays to observe your local restuarant menu’s, posted notes on doors and signage, cause you never know how much you could potentially save. Your local town paper, is often a good source of saving at particular restuarants and eateries in your area. Being in a town myself, I see this on regular intervals, in leaflets in our newspaper or advertising in the newspaper itself for local restaurants. It will usually be a coupon you will have to cut out for savings, add it to that stash in your purse or car. THOSE WONDERFUL COUPON BOOKS There is also a site online called Entertainment.com that offers coupon books that have tons of coupons for local restuarants and popular fast food places. They sell these books at different prices during the year, each book they sell is good for one year and for the particular area you ordered it for. You can always browse online to see what they offer for your area. These coupons are usually 2 for 1 deals and are great for eating with a friend or partner. However, these books have way more then just restuarant coupons though and are great to buy when they are on sale. You can even trade for them, in coupon groups. DON’T ORDER TOO FAST When I eat out at a place like Burger King, I often look at the menu for a while. I try to keep my orders below five dollars before tax. It’s not usually hard for me though, as I tend to eat vegetarian fare, and it seems to be cheaper in some cases. Most of the time is better to get combo deals, as the drink and side order is included. When you order separately, it’s almost always more. BE CAREFUL OF MISLEADING COUPONS Be wary of coupons posed as good deals though, for example a coupon for free fries with an order of a burger, sometimes won’t be cheaper, cause the cost of the beverage brings the price back up to the cost of the combo. This deal only becomes a deal if you had a drink already, and were not planning on purchasing another. As a side thought, a lot of fast food places now have Junior items, smaller sized portions. You can often buy 2 of these and a drink for less then five dollars. Or if you happen to have a bigger appetite, keep your eyes open for the 2 can dine specials for places such as McDonald’s and Burger King, it’s cheaper then buying 2 combos and great for those who have Kong sized appetites. I could go on with tons of ideas, and maybe these thoughts have made you come up with some of your own, either way, ruling out eating out isn’t usually needed. Do it sparingly, but do it wisely, and always keep your eye out for great deals. Lisa Hallman, owner of Thrifty Canadianand publisher of many articles on Savings advice for Canadians. Congratulatory Wedding Gift Basket Ideas

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Chrystal Holman You are a creative person, and you would like to make a congratulatory wedding gift basket for a couple that is getting married soon. However, you want to be sure that you include things in the congratulatory wedding gift basket that they will definitely like. Hence, you need some congratulatory wedding gift basket ideas. There are many different kinds of congratulatory wedding gift baskets to choose from if you decide not to make one yourself. The available congratulatory wedding gift baskets range in sizes from small to large. Those congratulatory wedding gift baskets also come in several different genres, from humorous to informal to very formal. However if you are creative, it is probably a better idea to make the congratulatory wedding gift basket yourself, because this way you can put whatever you like in the basket and make it more personalized. What you put in the basket depends on what the couple likes. For example, say the husband likes golf. An idea for what to put in the gift basket is a gift certificate for golf lessons. Alternatively, if you choose to purchase something less expensive, consider getting something golf-themed that the husband can place on his desk at work. As for the wife, women always appreciate a way to relax. In the congratulatory wedding gift basket, include a gift certificate for a day of beauty at a spa. In lieu, you can do separate gift certificates for certain things. For example, you can include a gift certificate to her hair salon, or a gift certificate to get a manicure or pedicure. While you can include separate things in the congratulatory wedding gift basket for each of them, you should also include something in the gift basket that both of them can share. This, of course, should be something romantic. One idea is to get a bottle of champagne and personalized champagne glasses. Something that many couples like to do is go to a show as sort of a date night. If you know that the couple likes doing things like this, consider getting them tickets to a theater performance or a comedy show. For more ideas on what to put in the congratulatory wedding gift basket, ask the family and friends of the couple. The possibilities are endless with congratulatory wedding gift baskets because you can include many different items that the couple can enjoy long after their wedding. Chrystal Holman recommends these wedding favors and bridal gifts. Flexible mortgage: A good option you can look for

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_M]Philip M In todays world, people are becoming more and more flexible while looking for mortgages and other types of loans. Thats why many mortgage lenders offer flexible mortgage to the borrowers. Most mortgages contain flexibility. The question may arise in your mind as what factor is driving people towards taking up of flexible mortgage? There are many advantages associated with flexible mortgages: In case of flexible mortgages, borrowers can overpay, repay and they can also take payment holidays. Take the benefit flexible mortgage as the interest rate is calculated on daily basis. There is no redemption penalty in case you repay the loan before a specified time period. Many borrowers make overpayments and repay the mortgage earlier. This practice help borrowers get rid of their mortgages earlier and help them save thousands of pounds. Some flexible deals allow you to take a halt from repayment. This feature helps you to avoid problems like defaults in repayment. This feature helps most when you are not financially sound. You can also take the benefit of payment holidays. Such loans are very much similar to that of underpayments. But, a payment holiday means complete halt for a period of time. There are certain conditions for taking payment holidays like if you have overpaid in the past, etc. If these flexibility suits your needs then you can look for flexible mortgages. Though many [http://www.adverse-credit-first-time-buyer.co.uk/flexible-mortgage.html ]mortgage lenders offer somewhat higher interest rates for flexible mortgage but, if you shop around, you can get flexible mortgages at competitive interest rates. Twelve Tips to Make “Moments of Truth” Count

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Kelly O’Brien Peoples impressions are a result of accumulated experiences or moments of truth that the world has with your organization over time. Everything you (and those you manage) do sends a message, impacts your brand image, and is PR for better or worse. These moments of truth include things like how you Handle the recruitment and hiring process, including unsolicited resumes and employment inquiries Welcome new staff into your organization Ramp-up, manage, and treat subcontractors Treat vendors, suppliers, someone elses support staff and any receptionist or answering service Use voicemail and email what you actually say and write Respond (or dont) to voice or e-messages Manage client expectations about what you can do and when you can deliver Communicate bad news, handle conflict, or hold your ground on an unpopular policy Ask for what you need from a client, employee or vendor Take ownership for your role in a conflict, problem or mistake This gets especially tricky when youre managing others. Whether its staff, vendors, subcontractors, your boss or peersits one thing to manage your own behavior, quite another to manage moments of truth created by others. I recently ran across the following tough-love tips from Kelly Harman, CEO of The Harman Group (http://www.theharmangroup.com). Kelly takes an active approach to clearly define what she expects from contractors, staff and colleagues, and it pays off. Her feisty marketing firm is growing by leaps and bounds, fueled by happy clients and lots of good buzz about her firm. Here are Kellys tips (direct from the source!) for making sure you get the most from the people responsible for creating moments of truth for your organization: 1. Disagree with me. I come up with ideas all the time; some are better than others and some are perfectly awful. When I run one by you, and you dont think it will work, tell me why. I may not have looked at the idea from all angles, and I value your input. I may not agree with you, but Ill respect your opinion. 2. Question my decisions. If I make a decision that you dont agree with or dont understand, then ask me why I made it. Ill take the time to explain my logic. You might still disagree with me, but at least youll understand why I made the decision. 3. Dont come to me with problems. Dont run to me with a problem and expect me to fix it for you. Come to me with a problem and then tell me how you want to fix it. If it makes sense, well implement it. If I dont agree, Ill tell you why and then well work together to figure out a better solution. 4. Tell me you want my job. Its great to be ambitious. I want you to covet my job. There is nothing wrong with clearly stating your goals. How else will anyone know how to help you? Ill give you more responsibility if I know what you want and if that means you want my job (or a position similar to mine someday) then my job is to help you get there. 5. Tell me you dont want your job. You wont have fun unless you do something youre passionate about. Who wants to spend their working hours in a state of resignation or boredom? If you want to go to night school and study for a completely different career, Ill support you. Ill still expect 110% from you when you are here, but when I make my long-term plans; Ill take into consideration the fact that you may not be here to help me execute them. But Ill respect your dreams and your goals and I will do everything I can to help you achieve them. 6. Tell me when you dont know something. Dont try and fake your way through something you dont know. It will only make me angry. If youre honest with me, Ill make the investment to educate you. After all, I hired you because I thought you could learn, not because I thought you knew everything already. 7. Make bad decisions. Congratulations! At least you made one. Id rather see you make decisions that turn out wrong and learn from them than have you expect me to make every decision for you. I dont have time. A mistake isnt stupid unless you do it twice. 8. Act like you own the company. Before making a decision, spending a dime, talking to a customer - you get the idea pretend you own the company. As the owner, how would you behave? What would you spend? Knowing it would impact your own bottom line or the success of your company, would you act the same way or make the same decision? If the answer is yes, then you are on the right track. 9. Dont expect me to pay for everything. I will pay for certain classes, but you need to have some skin in the game too. Read books, take classes, listen to tapes, what ever it takes. And dont just learn what you need to know to do your job today learn for the future. Just because you arent a manager now doesnt mean you shouldnt take management classes. Dont assume that you dont need accounting courses because youre not in the accounting department. Believe me, accounting and budgets are a big part of any managers job. If you want advice, come to me and Ill help you. Ill suggest classes, magazines to subscribe to, and books to buy. And - Ill remember. 10. Confess. When you make a mistake, tell me immediately. The sooner I know, the sooner we can deal with it. Ive gone to my boss with my heart pounding, my palms sweating, and my voice shaky to confess a mistake I made. Its natural to be scared. What will save you is the fact that I immediately heard about it from you instead of someone else. 11. Take responsibility when it isnt your fault. If you are in charge of a project then ultimate responsibility belongs to you. I dont want to hear a long litany of excuses and explanations of how someone that reports to you failed to do something. I expect you to take full responsibility for the project. I know a lot more about whats going on than you think. And believe me, it works all the way up the management chain. If a project Im in charge of fails because you didnt do your job, do you think my client cares? The bottom line is that I am in charge, so Im the one who has to take responsibility, and you should too. 12. Quit your job. If you think of what youre doing here as just a job, then quit. Get Married Now If You Want Kids

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Peter Portero If it seems like everyone in your life, except you, is ready for you to get married and have children, you should know you are not alone. All nosey relatives and friends of single people constantly bother them about settling down. While it is socially acceptable to be married before having children, it is no longer the only acceptable act. If you want children, you no longer have to get married to have them. You can choose to have children with someone you know, out of wedlock. You can also choose to adopt children on your own, without having a partner at all. There are many countries that allow single parents to adopt children. As everyone knows, it doesnt really matter what type of home an orphan grows up in, as long as it is a stable and loving home. Dont think you have to rush into marriage just because you feel your biological clock ticking. You have time to wait for the right person to come along, or just decide to have children on your own! You will be glad you are an independent person who doesnt rely on someone else to fuel your dreams of being a parent. Children are a lot of responsibility. The Role of the Private Investigator in the Criminal Justice Field

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Kenneth Echie Criminal Justice is an exciting field. One of the most beautiful things about the profession is that you have many career choices. You have the option of not being stuck doing the same thing your whole career. One of the choices you have is that of being a Private Investigator. In this article, I will examine the role of the Private Investigator (PI) in the Criminal Justice field. To examine the role of the private investigator in the criminal justice field, we need to understand the meaning of the words Private Investigator. The word private means alone. This means as a private investigator your work will involve working by yourself or alone. You do not work with or work for a governmental organization or police group. The word investigator means someone who does detailed examination and searches for the facts. Facts are needed to support a point someone is trying to make. Without these facts, the person may not be able to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. This is where the investigator comes in. The investigator will help gather and examine the facts. So to put them together, the private investigator works alone to help non governmental organizations or police groups gather information and examine this information for the facts. There are simply personal cases that governmental organizations cannot help individuals with. The private investigators role is to help these individuals. An example is an attorney preparing for a court case. The private investigator can help this attorney gather and examine facts for the case. Another example is insurance company that suspects someone of committing insurance fraud. This insurance company cannot simply accuse someone of committing insurance fraud. When it suspects there is such insurance fraud, it will employ the services of a private investigator to gather the facts to prove this suspicion. The need for the private investigator to work in private is to allow him/her not to be detected by the people or person they are investigating. It must be pointed out that there are times a private investigator must work with other people. A private investigator working a case that requires surveillance may require someone to help setup and/or operate the surveillance equipment/s. As can be seen, the role the private investigator plays in the criminal justice field is an important one. Its a profession people interested in this exciting field should consider.
