Stressing the Field of Interest in Post College Admission Essays

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Thomas Suh Many students often struggle in selecting a topic for their post college admission essays, including MBA essays (or graduate school admission essay) as part of the requirements in gaining admission to a school of their choice. In most cases, the school itself will present a topic(s) for the post college admission essay which the student can expound on and this will become a good starting point or guideline for the post college admission essay, including MBA essays. In many instances, however, the student is left to fend for himself, where the admission essay questions posed are very general and open. In such cases, the applicant is left in the dark, not having an ounce of an idea on what to write about in his post college admission essay, including MBA essays. In very simple terms, a post college admission essay including MBA essays, should tell a basic picture of yourself. It should be able to present a clear and definite description of you as a person, including the things that you love to do, the things that make you laugh or cry, your experiences at home, at school, in your local church, fun and adventure with friends, basically the things that make you who you are at the present moment, which in turn convey to the reader (admission officer) why you are good candidate for admission to their graduate program. However, a very important aspect that should never be absent in any post college admission essay including MBA essays, is a precise and detailed narrative of a candidate’s academic experiences. More specifically, it should be able to express in genuine terms accounts of how the candidate was able to obtain good grades in certain subject areas that are considered as major subjects in the course he is taking up. At the same time, dont avoid addressing weaker grades or negative marks. Face them head on and provide a good and logical explanation in the post college admission essay, including MBA essays. Let us suppose, for example, that a student has finished his undergraduate studies in journalism and wants to take up a master degree in the same field with specialization in literary criticism. In his post college admission essay, he can detail an experience in one college subject where the teacher asked them to produce three short stories by the end of the semester. Since literature has always been his favorite subject, the student was able to meet the requirement early and was even able to receive a high grade from his teacher at the end of the course. The sample given above is just one of the many ways by which a candidate can elaborate on the concept of presenting specific accounts on how he fared in his major field of concentration as expressed in his post college admission essay, including MBA essays. Other related accounts can and should be given in post college admission essays to better persuade admissions officials that the applicant is well-versed in his field and has the required ability to pursue higher learning in the same. Needless to say, a student’s excellent grades on his major subjects denotes expertise and passion in his chosen field. It gives clear indications that the field he has decided to pursue is one that greatly interests him. As such, he is able to pour all his energy and efforts, and more so, his heart and soul into it, resulting in grades that are outstanding. Generally, this gives the admissions officer the feeling that the applicant is focused and driven to achieve in his chosen field of study. Focusing on your field of concentration as a topic in your post college admission essay including MBA essays, is an effective way of convincing admissions officials that your application is worth giving due consideration because you showed focus and the desire to pursue your chosen field of study. More so, if in using such a topic in your post college admission essay including MBA essays, you are able to show specific instances in one or two subjects wherein you were able to excel. Beauty from the Inside for Sensitive Skin

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Tina Titas If you have sensitive skin you may find that many of the treatments you try are too harsh for your skin. While other women are buying skin care products with vitamin C or anti-oxidants, you are using the mild brand with no anti-aging benefits. So, what can you do about it? How can you, with your sensitive skin get the same anti-aging effects that other women are getting? While others are applying expensive anti-aging products on their skin, you can eat them. Now, of course, I dont mean for you to eat your expensive night cream or any other store-bought skin products, but you can eat the effective ingredients in them. Since your skin is your largest organ, the benefits of eating the ingredients will be similar to applying them directly to your skin. Here are some ingredients you can start with. Green tea: There are plenty of skin care product now that contain green tea. Youll hear about green tea everywhere and its now in many brands of skin care. However, if you have sensitive skin and cant use those products, then you can drink green tea and have the same effects on your skin. Plus, the bonus is that youll be benefitting every other part of your body as well. Some of the other benefits of green tea are weight loss, lower cholesterol, and possibly a lower risk of cancer. Cucumbers: An increase in fruits and vegetables in your diet can have a positive effect on the overall appearance of your skin. Increase your vegetable intake and your skin will thank you. Vitamin C: Take a supplement or increase your intake of oranges and other fruits. The anti-oxidants in them are wonderful for your skin. Remember, your skin is your largest organ. Take care of it by feeding it well, whether youre putting products on it, or feeding your body with nutritious foods. And, for those of us with sensitive skin, well be saving a fortune, avoiding those expensive jars of cream and heading straight for the grocery store produce aisles. Cell Phone Ring Tones - 4 Steps to Choose your Ringtone Service

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Kimathi]Mark Kimathi You may wonder, why subscribe to a cell phone ring tone service while you can search the web for a free ring tone downloads? But Im you are aware you get what you pay for. BBC recently reported that the term “Free Ring tones” is one of the top 7 dangerous keywords to search for in the search engines, like Google. They reported “the riskiest search terms were associated with download (such as “screen saver” and “free ringtone”) and file sharing. This means searching under these categories returned a substantial proportion of dangerous sites” Basically what this means is that as you search for a free cell phone ring tone you many end up with softwares that install into your computer without your permission. These softwares referred to as malware include programs that spy on how you surf the web and some even steal your login passwords. Does the adage “Buy cheap, Buy twice” ring a bell what about “There is nothing for free?” For quality copyright complaint as well as wide selection of cell phone ring tones for your mobile phone it is best to subscribe to a ring tone service. But with so many services available how do you pick what is best for you? Here we look at a fairly reasonable way to narrow your choices. First and foremost get to know your needs. Your phone is primarily for communication. So give first priority to this function. Different cell phone services allow different ring tone providers. So select a good cell phone plan and you will automatically narrow the ring tones available to you albeit slightly. Secondly, consider the type of handset you have. Different cellular phone handsets can download only some type of ring tones. The newer versions of mobile phones can download all types of ring tones. But at times, when you are flossing the very latest cell phone you may not be able to use some ring tone provider because the phone model has not been added to the system yet. So you may have to wait a couple of weeks. The concern though is with those with older models of phones. There are basically three kinds of ring tones, monophonic ring tone, polyphonic ring tones and True or Real tones. Older mobile phone may not be capable of downloading and playing true tones and to some extent the poly ring tones. This however does not mean you need to change your handset. There is always a wide selection of cellular phone ring tones. Some handsets take if even further. You can set a ring tone for different callers. One for you better half, one for your mother and you sure cannot miss one for your mother-in-law. With your cellular service provider and mobile phone handset having narrowed your choice; the third thing you need to do is to identify your style. Its not every one that wants the Akon hip hop tones as their ring tone. Always keep in mind the primary reasons for a ring tone is to identify your phone when it rings in a crowd. So whats the use if, half of the crowd has the same ring tone of the latest hit song? The cell phone ring tone of your choice should obviously be audible for the environments you usually are in. For example music ring tones are not easily audible in noisy environments. Try to avoid the irritating types. Yeah, Crazy Frog ring tone may be your style, but it really can attract some sneers. Last but not least your cell phone ring tone service of choice should be easy to unsubscribe from. Usually they simply allow you to text a number and you are automatically unsubscribed. When all else is equal, a few complimenting ring tones, can sway your decision; especially if you get more than ring tone. Living in the U.S.A? Do You Meet The Criteria For Major Depression?

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Mark Webb Thousands of people suffer from depression and dont even know it. Often their symptoms are only mild to moderate in severity over time, individuals learn to adapt to an unnecessary struggle with depression. These symptoms most likely wont just go away and they can only get worse. If you find yourself identifying with several of these traits then I suggest you see your physician or better yet a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Here are the more common symptoms of depression: Depressed Mood Increased Anxiety Increased Irritability Low Energy Level Restlessness Lack of Interest in Previously Enjoyed Activities Sleep Disturbance o Initial Insomnia o Frequent awakenings o Increased need for sleep o Feeling tired upon awakening Decreased or Increased Appetite Feelings of Worthlessness Difficulty Concentrating Racing Thoughts Intrusive Thoughts Feelings of Hopelessness and/or Helplessness Active or Passive Thoughts of Hurting Yourself and/or Someone Else Crying Spells Isolation from family and friends If you identify with these symptoms and they have existed for over a month, you need to consider this an urgent matter. Do not let pride interfere with you getting the help you need. Symptoms of depression are usually progressive in nature. If you wait too long the symptoms can be quite overwhelming. Denying yourself treatment is a form of self abuse/neglect. The proper treatment can typically provide fast relief. It is common to see improvement in two weeks and sometimes sooner. Why would you want to keep suffering with depression when relief can be right around the corner? Call and make yourself an appointment now. Make sure your family physician is comfortable treating your depression. If not, they can refer you to a colleague they trust that is trained to treat depression. While you are at it, I suggest you seek out a therapist to help as well. You will want to choose a therapist who is experienced in treating depression. Ask the receptionist any qualifying questions you may have. Often the therapist will call you back if you request. This can save you time and money. Some therapists work best with children while others are more proficient with adults. A therapist who is effective in treating depression can be a huge resource. They not only can teach you skills to combat the depression, they can also teach you how to prevent a reoccurrence of symptoms. The encouragement and support they provide is worth the effort of seeking a therapist. Mark Webb is the author of How To Be A Great Partner and founder of Partner Focused Relationships. College Admissions Essays that Take 1st Place -A Personal Statement Checklist

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Roxanne McDonald Congratulations on your move toward a college degree. And congratulations on seeking support for writing your admissions essay/personal statement. The squeaky motor gets the oil, so you will be slick and running sleekly in a just a few daysin plenty of time to submit and relax before transferring from a community college or crossing over from high school to higher learning. While the application and entry process is exciting, it is also rigorously demanding when it comes to writing the prompted essays. But instead of getting intimidated, remember, it is a process with a series of many laps around the track. Do the steps one at a time, on time, and even ahead of time; be just as rigorous as the entry requirements are; and use the following as a checklist throughout the entire personal statement writing process, and you will create a worthy piece of writing that will smoothly slide you right into the institution of your choice. 1. Use that fine machine (your head): get ahead, start ahead. ___Start early. If the application and essay are due in three months, start working on it in two. 2. Start small. ___If the task seems overwhelming, choose an easy, quick, or interesting part of the task. Then you will have a momentum that will push you forward into the larger, more time consuming tasks. For example, you know your name, address, and (maybe) what you want to major in. Fill out the application. 3. Read X3 before you start to build. ___The first time, read the directions and the prompt choices for the personal statement(s) you have to write as if you are reading a magazine for fun. ___The second time, read the prompt choices as if you are reading a catalog and shopping for the one (best) item (prompt). Choose the one topic that you feel you have the most to write on, the one you like, the one you are drawn to. ___The third time, read with a highlighter or pen: highlight or underline the key words in the prompts introductory sentences and the key action words (those words that tell you to do something). For example, if the prompt reads as follows, you would mark it like this [I use brackets here for highlighting]: Is there [anything] you would like us to know [about you or your academic record] that you have not had the opportunity to [describe] elsewhere in this application? What is [your intended major]? [Discuss] [how your interest in the field developed] and [describe] any [experience you have had in the field] such as volunteer work, internships and employment and what you have gained from your involvement. 4. Make notesand make them visible. ___You now have the (five, here) parts to list on a big piece of paper or cardboard that you then prop up or tape up on your wall or pc. (I always do thistape the required points on my computer; then I can constantly refer to it as I am writing. It keeps me on trackon topic.) 5. Consider your audience. ___As with any writing, you decide your tone based on who will be reading the work. In this case, you are submitting to a committee of readers who read stacks and stacks of these things. So 6. Be real. Be honest. Be engaging. Be positive. Be fresh. I know, I know. I hate it too when someone tells me to be myself. (Who else would I be?) The point is to avoid pretense, avoid b.s. (lies), and avoid whining, begging, and angry, bitter, resentful tirades. The readers want to know who you are, how you would fit, and what you would bring to the university. ___Brainstorm a list of true details, writing them on the left side of a piece of paper. On the right side, note next to each item how that makes you a perfect candidate for the place. (The left side is negative, too. The right side is the balance, turning the negatives into positives.) 7. Engage. Granted, when we writers begin drafting, we may not necessarily begin with the opening paragraph. We scribble the lines we remember, the body, the conclusion, topic sentences, important buzz words, or anything else that comes to mind. But when you do get to the opener, it must be as outstanding, alluring, inviting, and original as possible. I promise I know what Im talking about here. As a/an (former) Associate Professor of college English, I assisted hundreds of students with both graduate and undergraduate application packets and processes–teaching workshops on the entrance essays, tutoring students in the complete process in the colleges learning centers, even receiving students in my home (where they still continue to approach me for consultation and support). So I have seen/see many students get accepted to Berkeley, Cornell, Stanford, State, and other private and public institutionsbased on their essays, which I helped them to write and (ugh) rewrite using the standards and guidelines of the major institutions of higher learning (and this handy manual of caveats I have compiled over the years). And those essays start with unique, engaging introsthat follow these tricks: ___Get rid of all abstractions (now also considered clichs in the academic arenasince they have been driven into the ground by overuse). Avoid using the success achieve lifelong dream terms, words, and phrases. The panel knows you want/need these. They expect it is a given, and would probably have group heart attacks if someone wrote he/she was applying to be unsuccessful, to achieve nothing, and to listlessly idle, having no dream whatsoever. (Okay, you get my point, right?) ___Erase the I am an immigrant who needs to make my parents proud clichs. (I promise you, this strategy is empty and useless. I have received students needing entry essay help who are immigrants, children of immigrants, products of immigrant DNA, victims of immigrant mentality.every first draft I read started with this kind of intro. And Ive only helped about 500 students with this exact same opener. Imagine the weary tsk-ing and head shaking of the board member who reads thousands!) The bottom line is this: asking to be admitted because you experienced–and are slamming the board with–a number of boo-hoo poor me hardships is the same as going to a job interview and answering questions about what skills you bring to the job by crying that you need to feed your kids. How does your need qualify you? It doesnt. ___And/or, forget the I was neglected, abused, poor, hungry, ugly, fat opener. Same lecture as above applies here, too. Unless ___You can turn the negative into a positive. If you have to be real, and the victim thing is part of your story, show how that pain/struggle/torture contributed to who you are today and to what you bring to the school. But do it later in the essay and do it in passing, in mention, in briefand then move on. So, how do you open a personal statement? ___ By opening the essays with a metaphor, a narrative, or appropriate facts and statistics that will make the essay(s) stand out, appeal to the board, and give those readers something interestingyou have a better chance of them saying to each other, Hey, did you read that Joe Blow essay? and of them putting it in the YES pile. Consider this: what running theme(s) would best represent you? For example, would you, like Helen Zhang did, use a water metaphor to represent your immigrating from a country where you were going with the flow of running your own company, then moved to a country where you started over, re-built the ship from scratch, beat the hell out of those choppy stormy seas, and are now sailing, headed for helping others to row to safe shores? Or would you, like Celestino Garcia, use a food/feeding metaphor to show how getting your fingers broken by a cruel (and insane) uncle who then forced you to do farm work and refused to feed you has instead driven you to culinary school, to prepare lovely meals for feeding todays children even worse off than he was without food? Or do you prefer to open with a description, as Sarah Choi did, for example, of living in the projects, looking through a cracked window at the police lights every night you sat to do grade school homeworktill one day you made it out, still keeping in mind (and writing it back in at the end of your essay) the sirens and lights and project life from whence you came, so you can, when you graduate, return to the projects and aid others in escaping the flashing lights and flashes of gunfire? 8. Youve got their attention. Now make your point. Boldly. ___Heres where your thesis comes in. Once you have used an original description, metaphor, statistic, fact, or definition to open, wrap up the intro with a declarative, confident statement. For example, This is why I want to attend Oxford. will not help you make your way into Oxford. Again, its obvious you want to attend/be accepted, and thats not reason enough to be accepted. But With this experience, with excellent grades, with a steady volunteer record, and with a pro-active attitude, I will make dynamic, positive, and supportive contributions to the community at Oxford, and later, to the community at large. will give you the horsepower you need to finish the essay and to get accepted. 9. Youve done the hard part. Follow through to the finish. ___The body of your essay will now have the theme/line of reasoning it needs to follow. If it helps, print the thesis in large lettering, and tape this up, too. It is the main point you will now prove with examples of __your g.p.a. __your outstanding performance awards __your volunteer experience (where, when, etc.) __your tutoring, interning, or work-related experience __your influences/reasons for getting into the field __any points the prompt asks for 10. Accelerate using anything you have/know/have done. The support (body of the essay) is most important nowadays, to give you the boost you need to compete. For instance, a number of schools/majors are impacted. Computers and business, for example, have students neck-and-neck in fierce competition for a seat in the department. So when there are 500 applicants with the same 4.0 g.p.a, the same awards, and the same backgrounds and work experience, you need to use facts (no b.s., made-up stuff) that will give you the extra speed. This is why tutoring tales help. This is where volunteering cranks up the volume. This is where you use what you can to race ahead. As long as its truth-based. If they ask for two letters of recommendation, send three. If they ask for one way you will contribute to the university, give them two: you will help in the department, assisting the professors (for free); and you will tutor those struggling in a (related) subject you are fortunate to do well in. 10. But how do you come in 1st and keep the rules of the road? Heres where revising, revising, and revising again comes in. First, write all you can, all you want, all you know. Then, go back and check those instructions. How many pages must you use? What size font? ___Usually, you have a page limit that you must not go over. ___At the same time, you must cover 3-4 areas in your essay. ___Follow the instructionstotheletter. (This will also give you an advantage, for the instructions are there not just to get to know you but to test whether you are adept at following instructions.) ___Dont give the readers any excuse/reason to eliminate you. ___Tighten your text. This is covered in the Mechanics section below. 11. Keep that machine well-oiled: use your pit mechanics. ___Revise the opener. Make sure it is fresh, engaging, relevant. ___Revise the thesis. Be sure its complete and expresses the general point. ___Revise the body (supporting evidence). Check that it addresses part of the prompt. (This is another testdoes the applicant cover all parts of the question?) ___Rev. the paragraphs and transitions between paragraphs. Be sure each is coherent, and that all are organized and connected, and therefore easy to follow. ___Rev. the sentences. Use variety. Combine sentences for rhythm and flow. ___Rev. the diction. Get rid of useless words, extra words, abstract words. This is where you will be able to shorten the essay. ___Revise the spelling. Do not rely on the pc spellchecker! It is two e-z to Miss homonyms and readers will not be able to bare it! ___Revise the punctuation. Get a tutor for this if you need to. ___Use human mechanics, too. We have brains that are set up so perfectly that they do this thing called hypercorrection. So when we read our own drafts, our brains insist on automatically correcting and reading as correct text that has errors in it. How do you fix this? Have someone else read the work aloud. You listen carefully. When the reader stumbles, pauses, or does a Wha? double-take, you stop the reader, catch the error, and change it, right then and there, in the pit stop. Before you mail itagainre-read and revise. Re-read and revise. ___12. Mail the entrythe application (with nothing left blank), the check (not blank), and the essay (cleaned and polished)–before the deadline in plenty of time for the university readers to read it, laugh over it, cry over it (which does happenI have cried over the top essays that got Sarah, Tino, Helen, and many others into law school, computer tech school, business school, and more), and except you…I mean, accept you. Now get your motor running and win that race. N.H.-born prize-winning poet, creative nonfiction writer, memoirist, and award-winning Assoc. The Kingdom Was Not Postponed

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Mac Machovsky The Kingdom of Christ came 2000 years ago, quietly, peacefully, without fanfare - and without fail. There were no parades down Main Street, no fireworks marking the event, no great political speeches. Only a few men saw it, and even they didn’t realize what was going on. The Jews of that day expected more, as do Bible scholars today, who continually scan the prophetic horizons for the unusual and the spectacular, and overlook one of the most significant events since Creation. The Bible doesn’t give us the whole story in big, blue, letters. We have to dig a little. Matthew 10: Verse 5 “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not.” V6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Verse 7. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Verse 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The Second Coming has been preached for years, to the exclusion of almost anything else concerning prophecy, until any Scriptural mention of Christ coming or going almost anywhere automatically generates a picture in our minds of the glorious, visible, Second Coming. “Till the Son of man be come” obviously is no exception. So when Bible scholars see that, they focus on the future, and read no further. But after the day of his ascension into heaven, there are several mentions of Christ’s comings. The Scriptures here deal with Christ coming into His kingdom. This is not a future event; it won’t happen after a seven year “Great Tribulation,” or after the “rapture” of the Church, or after 144000 fantastic Jewish witnesses surpass the Church in bringing countless souls to Christ, it happened 2000 years ago. Jesus sent the twelve Israelites out over the nation, and said that they, not their descendants, will not have gone over all the cities till the Son of man comes. And He didn’t say that their mission would be interrupted, and placed in suspended animation for the duration of the Church. It would happen when some of the disciples were still alive, but after the remainder had tasted of death. There are other Scripture verses pointing to the coming of the kingdom before His Second Coming in glory. The firstone is in Matthew. “Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom” (Matt 16:28). Here Jesus said that some of the disciples, though not all, would live to see the Son of man coming in His kingdom. Remember to interpret literally. Don’t do as dispensationalists do, who boast of “literal interpretation”until they are confronted with a verse which does not fit into their program. Then watch the nonsense fly. In this case, the event becomes a “miniature preview” of the coming kingdom. Seems reasonable at first glance, but there’s an important element of logic missing. Mark, on the same event, writes, “And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power” (Mark 9:1). The word to remember here is power. And Luke says this: “But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:27). Without question these three Gospel passages affirm that the disciples would actually see Jesus coming, He would be in His kingdom and they would see Him. He would have power, great power. In fact, He would have all the power in the whole universe. But it all happened too quietly. There weren’t any fireworks or marching bands when it happened, so most Bible scholars suspect that Jesus made a wrong guess about the time. Liberals, with dulled conscience, don’t mind saying it, others couch their unbelief in pious sounding gibberish. The Wycliff Bible commentators align themselves with Scofield and dispensational futurism, who could think only in terms of the Second Coming: “These words seemingly require the return of Christ within the lifetime of the apostles, but He did not come. The most logical explanation is that Jesus was speaking of the Transfiguration as a sample of the coming of the Kingdom.” (p. 1044,1045). (that’s that “miniature preview” we mentioned earlier) Another was Dr. A.C. Gaebelein, close friend of Scofield. He was so sure that the Lord Jesus Christgoofed that he gives the Holy Spirit credit for his and Scofield’s wild interpretation. He writes: “We can learn…that the transfiguration as interpreted not by men but by the Holy Spirit, is the pattern of the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ…Some of those standing there did not taste death until they saw Him coming, for after six days Peter, James and John beheld Him in His power and Glory, a pattern of the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” (Gospel of Matthew, p 361). Such is the most common interpretation of Matthew 16:28 in the Church today, but it’s far from literal, and far from biblical. First of all, Jesus said that they would see Him in His Kingdom, not in some kind of “pattern.” In the second place the Transfiguration happened only about six days later while all the apostles were still alive. And Jesus said that not all of them would be alive. Scholars didn’t check the Scriptures to see whether Jesus was right or wrong, they simply assumed that He was wrong, and went about to cover up His “mistake” as best they could. The obvious step would have been to search the Scriptures for a time when one or more of the apostlestasted death before the others did. And as we all know, one apostle, Judas Iscariot, betrayed Jesus andthen hanged himself. He tasted death. The time was after the Transfiguration, and shortly before Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried - all that happened almost 2000 years ago, and the Second Coming hasn’t taken place yet. Jesus, after His resurrection, came to the eleven disciples: “AndJesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matt 28:18). “All power” is a great deal of power. When was this power given to Him? “And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Rom. 1:4): Many scholars refuse to accept the fact that Jesus received power at His resurrection, preferring the highly questionable view offered by the NIV, and other modern translations, which turn the verse around, and say that “with power He was declared to be the Son of God.” That’s a forced translation, and it’s devious. He wasn’t declared with power to be the Son of God, He was declared to be the Son of God with power, or possessing power. And it happened at His resurrection. Ephesians 1 is almost a repeat of Romans 1:4. Verse 19: “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Verse 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Verse 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: Verse 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Verse 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all” By a literal interpretation, and using the God-given principle of searching the Bible for relevant passages (”Here a little and there a little” - Isaiah 28:9-13), all the facts fall neatly into place. Jesus was in possession of all power in all the universe, and every kingdom on earth, and everything in heaven, at the time of His resurrection. Eleven disciples (one had tasted of death) saw the Son of man coming in His kingdom shortly thereafter (Matthew 28:18). The kingdom was set up right on schedule; it was not postponed. And yet, most of Israel had no part in the Kingdom. All agree that Christ came to offer the kingdom to Israel. And all agree that, because Israel rejected the King and the kingdom, the nation did not receive it. But scholars cannot accept the obvious, that all the promises God made to Israel in the Old Testament came to nought. Believing the promises to be without condition, yet seeing that the kingdom was not delivered as promised, they invented the “postponed kingdom” theory. To make that seem plausible, many Scriptures needed to have been muddied. And so we have the most unbelievable future scenario: a coming Antichrist, a seven year “Great Tribulation,” the great “gap” between the 69th and 70th weeks of Daniel, and so forth. The big problem with their theory is that, if the promise had been unconditional, God, being a God ofintegrity, could neither have cancelled nor postponed the kingdom. “Unconditional” means that, no matter what Israel did or didn’t do, she would have received the promise right on schedule. Today Israel, a nation of unbelievers, would have been the top spiritual nation in the world. What a frightful scenario! But God is not as dumb as some dispensationalists would like to believe. He knows man inside out, and made no unconditional covenants with him. He would not trap Himself into agreementswith unstable, unpredictable, sinful man which would have wreaked havoc upon the whole world of Christianity. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man (John 2:24). Because the promise was NOT unconditional, and because Israel betrayed and crucified Him, the kingdom was taken from them, and given to another nation (Matthew 21:43). That other nation was a peculiar nation, a chosen generation, a group of Jews, faithful to both the Father and the Son. The Tradition of Reiki

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Eric Hartwell Reiki is a Japanese form of hands-on healing. It is a simple yet powerful way to channel and direct energy for various purposes chiefly healing and performing other energy work that works on all levels of the mind, body and spirit to transform and cure. Reiki is not just limited to humans but can be safely used on plants, animals; practically any living being can receive Reiki. In fact its positive effects are being tested on machines with surprising results. It is also very versatile and can be used for meditation, enhancing intuitive abilities and for personal growth and spiritual development. It is a tradition that was started by Dr. Mikao Usui when he was meditating on Mount Kuruama in Japan and after a 21 day fast and penance he was said to have achieved enlightenment which led him to use his wisdom for connecting to an endless source of Universal Spiritual Energy which was channeled and directed by him. However the real story of Reiki has traveled over time to many lands and has gained mythical proportions. Dr. Usui life has been a mystery and only recently has it been revealed outside of Japan, the original form of Reiki is also called Usui Reiki Ryoho. This art was bought to the West by Mrs. Hawayo Takata, from Hawaii, who was a student of Dr. Hayashi, who had a Reiki clinic in Tokyo and received Reiki Attunement from him.She had observed this science at work in Japan and was impressed wit the high success rate it had in curing illnesses. Reiki is a derivative of the Shinto religion but also combines the benefits from the traditional chakra system and Body Meridians from traditional Indian and Chinese Medicine and consists of many of the Hawaiian Ao system of energy centers in the body and aura.
