Common Questions Every New Fiancee Asks Themselves

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Lesley-Ann Graham 1. He asked me to marry him yesterday, and I’m the happiest person on earth, but I know I need to get going if I want the perfect wedding! What do I do? Oh, enjoy the feeling first; he’ll only ask you to marry him once. In fact, be selfish; keep it private first for a while, your little secret. It won’t last, but savor the intimacy of having that knowledge just between you and him. But do go out with him or by yourself and enjoy the fun of looking at wedding things and dreaming. Check out wedding bands, think together about what you’d like, and dream about your perfect wedding. This period is not only tons of fun, but also gives you most of your best ideas, the ones that will shape your wedding, and in many ways your marriage. 2. So when do I tell everyone? And how? Should I just flash the ring? Tell your parents first. If you tend to be emotional, tell them one at a time. You can even ask your fianc to do it for you. And do everything you can to tell them in person. Sometimes distance and finances precludes this; if you really can’t get back to tell them (for instance, if you’re stationed overseas in the military or you’re chained to a rock somewhere), you can call them and tell them. Never do it with an email. The bride should get the opportunity to tell her parents and family first, but forgive your fianc if he gets so excited he can’t help calling his parents first. It’s understandable; he’s marrying you! After telling your parents, inviting all your friends to lunch and casually flashing the ring is acceptable, and lots of fun when they scramble over chairs and wrestle over your finger. 3. What kind of wedding should I consider? There’s a fantasy wedding in every woman’s, and even every little girl’s, head. After all, weddings and beauty pageants are the only time non-princesses have a legitimate reason to wear a tiara (though I never let that stop me). Don’t worry about money or practicality right now. What kind of wedding have you always wanted? Do you dream of marrying in the cathedral in your home town? On the beach in Hawaii? In a hot air balloon? With huskies on the frozen tundra’s of Alaska? It’s your wedding, and you can be as creative or traditional as you want. After the wedding you want, you should think about intimacy. Lots of guests, or just your parents? Should it be formal, should it be religious? Will you have to blend two religions in your ceremony? If you have a question you’re afraid to ask your fianc, ask it now. Your wedding is personal, and yours. It should reflect the two of you, not anyone else. 4. Okay, I want to marry with my whole family and eighty friends in Hawaii. How do I pay for it? This, alas, is where fantasy meets reality. You won’t be able to afford the elaborate perfect wedding unless you’re independently wealthy. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have something really close to it. Work out a preliminary budget. It’ll help you prioritize your wants. You really want to marry on the beach, but you don’t care if Aunt Millie is there? Maybe you can just marry on the North Carolina shore two hundred miles away. You don’t have to put everyone up in a hotel, only the wedding party. And carpools and roommates can be wonderful things. What you should NOT do is go into heavy debt. Light debt is okay. A little debt can be paid off quickly after the wedding. But you don’t want to be paying for your perfect wedding years into the future! 5. When should I start planning for my perfect wedding? Once you have a date set and a venue chosen, book the reception hall and church immediately. Some venues book fast. But the rest of your wedding can probably wait a little while. If you’re having a large wedding, allow at least a year. For smaller weddings, six months should be adequate. Allowing plenty of time to plan is in your best interests; a well-planned wedding is a non-stressful wedding. Ultra-Dispensationalism: A Personal Testimony

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By R. B. Shiflet I have never met a man who admitted that he was an ultra-dispensationalist. I have never heard nor read a satisfactory definition of one. I know that ultra-dispensationalism has a synonym, “hyper-dispensationalism.” Thus the propagandist who enjoys resorting to name calling may have his choice of the Greek prefix (hyper) or the Latin one (ultra) to hurl at this victim. I am aware that these terms are sometimes thrown about promiscuously by Bible teachers who have status in conservative circles. The terms are also repeated parrot-like by thousands who are simply seeking notoriety among fundamentalists. Usually someone is referred to as an ultra-dispensationalist if his system of dispensational interpretation of the Bible goes beyond one’s own. That, of course, is the meaning of the prefix “ultra”over or beyond. There is another, and perhaps even more deadly, ultra-dispensationalism, for which little rebuke seems to be forthcoming from any of the publications dedicated to the right dividing of the Scriptures. I consider this form of ultra-dispensationalism as practical ultra-dispensationalism, rather than doctrinal. I submit to you that when we become guilty of any of the following practices, we are “ultra” or “hyper” in our dispensationalism: that is, we go beyond the Scriptures and become practical ultra-dispensationalists. Make a Sect of our Dispensationalism. We refuse fellowship with any who do not agree with us in every facet of our teaching on right division of the Word. By way of example: not long ago a woman called our home to inquire about our church services. She was fundamental in her beliefs and dispensational according to the Scofield-Darby system, but she belonged to an independent fellowship of fundamental churches. When she discovered that our church was not affiliated with her denomination with its system of dispensationalism, she became aloof and would not attend our meetings, even though we assured her of the soundness of our teaching and that she would be made welcome in our assembly. This woman was so ultra in regard to her denomination and its system, that she could not see the many, many things we had in common and missed the sweet fellowship we could have enjoyed together as fellow believers. To be honest, we must admit that some of the most sectarian groups we have ever encountered were dispensationalists who took pride in the fact of their non-sectarianism. Many who boast in their being “non-sectarian Christians” are so hidebound in their dispensationalism that they refuse to admit to their fellowship any who vary even slightly from their particular “norms.” Mutilate the Scriptures by our Dispensationalism. Foes of right division of the Scriptures have often accused us of taking only a portion of the Word of God and casting the remainder aside. A well-known fundamentalist, who has been loud in his condemnation of dispensational Bible study, used to say that we took a slice of bread of God’s Word, while he took the whole loaf. He was, of course, inconsistent. He claimed to preach the “Great Commission” of Mark 16, but at the same time attacked with all his might the “healing preachers” who were attempting to carry out the sign program of the same commission. But the other side of the picture is that we of the “Grace Movement” have often been guilty of preaching the Mystery and Pauline truths, while neglecting or ignoring the remainder of the Bible. The error is not in preaching the great truths of Paul’s Epistles; it is in failing to give a balanced message, and so appearing to disregard or cast aside the rest of the Book. The revelation of truth concerning the Body of Christ needs the background of the Gospels. The Gospels would not be understandable without the Law, the Psalms and the Prophets. Therefore, we need the whole Book. Let us not become so ultra in our emphasis on dispensationalism (wherever we find the boundaries) that we neglect parts of the Word. Miss the Sweetness of Spiritual Applications. Closely associated with neglecting the Word of God other than Paul’s letters, is the failure to see spiritual applications from portions belonging to other dispensations. Dr. E. W. Bullinger said in his excellent book, How to Enjoy the Bible: “All the sweetness, all the blessing, all the truth can be obtained by a wise application, without in the slightest degree impairing the true interpretation. This may be left and preserved in its integrity, and yet something really spiritual may be appropriated by applicationall, in fact, that can be desiredwithout doing any violence to the Divine Word….” I think it was Dr. Henry Grube who called attention to the fact that I Corinthians 10:11 authorizes four types of Bible study: (1) “Now all these things happened”I can study the Bible as literally true, because these things actually happened; (2) “unto them for examples” (Greek, tupos, TYPES)I can study the Bible for types and shadows; (3) “and they are written for our admonition”I can study the Bible for spiritual applications; (4) “upon whom the ends of the world [ages] are come”I can study the Bible to distinguish the ages or dispensations. Surely some of God’s elect from among the Plymouth Brethren have done the Body of Christ a great service through their detail studies regarding spiritual applications of Old Testament truths! Who among us has not rejoiced with C. H. Mackintosh in many of his studies in shadow and type? If we become so dispensational that we miss the sweetness of these spiritual truths in type and shadow, we are Ultra. Manifest the Spirit of Continuous Criticism. I believe that, by the grace of God, most of us who love Pauline teaching have grown out of this to a degree; but who among us cannot remember the time when a believer new in dispensational truth was almost afraid to open his mouth around older believers for fear of being criticized for his choice of words, choice of hymns, etc.? We did not dare refer to the Old Testament or the New without a dissertation on just when the Old was replaced by the New. We dared not use the words “Christmas” or “Easter,” lest someone think we were observing days. It was heresy to sing “Stepping in the Light” because we surely were not “Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior.” In our zeal to stress the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ was a Jew according to the flesh, made of a woman, made under the Law, living on Old Testament ground, and coming to die for our sins, not showing us the way but coming to be The Way, we forgot another side of the picture. While we do not follow our Lord in His Jewish religion with its Sabbaths and ceremonies, we do (or should) strive to “let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” As far as His humility, His kindness, His graciousness and His love are concerned, we must remember that He left us an example that we should follow in His steps, not to be saved, but because He lives in us. In our zeal to “know Him no more after the flesh,” we may have put a stumblingblock in the path of weak Christians who did not even know what we were talking about. If our life is a pattern of criticizing those who fail to agree with us in that which has almost become dispensational jargon, we are Ultra. This message is not an appeal to minimize or de-emphasize the precious truths of right division, nor is it designed to discourage anyone from making known the Dispensation of the Mystery. Surely, too few are doing enough to make these rich truths known. But I am convinced that Satan sometimes uses the friends of dispensationalism to be its greatest hindrance. This truth given to us by the risen Christ, through the Apostle Paul, was meant to stress the unity of the Spirit, the oneness of all believers in Christ. It is a sad commentary on our depravity that our message, through these forms of ultra-dispensationalism, has become a source of division. A man of God of whom I have heard, and whose sweet spirit has been an inspiration to me, even though I was never privileged to meet him face to face, was Brother Elmer Leake, a Texas pastor, who, before any of us was born, was standing for many of the truths we hold dear. He was quoted as having said, “Brethren, if a wall of separation or sectarianism is ever built between us and any other believers, let’s let them do the building.” In other words, this dear brother loved all believers and desired fellowship with them through the Lord Jesus Christ. Brother C. R. Stam once wrote, “We look forward to the day when, in God’s grace, denominational walls will fall and we can all enjoy our oneness in Christ. Meantime we seek what fellowship we can find with those who love and trust our Lord in truth, whatever their denominational affiliation.” This statement climaxed an article that Brother Stam wrote on, “The Practical Effects of the Mystery,” in which he gave an impressive, clear-cut message on the preciousness of the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the Mystery, showing the practical effects this message should have in our lives. When we become so concerned with the minute details of dispensationalism that we lose the realization of our oneness in Christ, we have become Ultra. R. B. Shiflet is one of our senior Grace Pastors who has faithfully stood in the defense and confirmation of Paul’s gospel for longer than any one can remember. Having authored a number of popular booklets he has brought many dear saints into a fuller knowledge of the Word, rightly divided, through the written page. We are sure you’re going to enjoy his insights on the subject of Ultra-Dispensationalism. Brother Shiflet is getting along in years and we’re confident he would appreciate receiving a note of encouragement from our readers. Common Diet Mistakes for Weight Loss

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Bob Howard 1. Skipping breakfast This has to be one of the most common of all diet mistakes. Most people know the difference but still do it just the same. Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. The body has just gone 6 to 8 hours or more without food. Its just begging for nutrients when you wake up. Skipping breakfast also leads to overeating later during the day as your body compensates by greatly increasing your appetite. A healthy weight loss diet should definitely include breakfast. 2. Eating junk food While the occasional chocolate bar or bowel of ice cream is fine, for the most part junk food should be avoided. Most forms of junk food are loaded with calories and saturated fat. On the other hand they provide few healthy nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Junk the junk food! 3. Over indulgence in soft drinks or alcohol Soft drinks are loaded with sugar. Just one can of soda pop contains 10 to 12 spoonfuls of sugar. Other than perhaps a good source of clean water they provide few if any nutrients. Alcohol is also loaded with empty calories, and worse, slows down your bodys metabolism, making fat storage all the more likely. For males, alcohol will decrease testosterone levels. This increases fat storage and decreases the ability to build lean muscle mass. Keep alcohol consumption to a bare minimum and avoid this diet mistake. 4. Unrealistic goals. Besides overeating, one of the easiest ways to ruin a healthy diet is to set the bar too high. By this we mean setting unrealistic and rarely obtainable goals. If you try to lose too much weight too fast, youll only get discouraged after a few weeks. Start out slow. For example set a goal of 5 or 10 pounds over a month, rather than trying to lose the same amount over one or two weeks. Its much easier to stay with something when you see it working. 5. Taking in too few calories Just as taking in too many calories can lead to health problems, so too is there a lower limit. For most women,1200 to1500 calories a day should suffice. Anything less than that will be putting you at risk for nutrient deficiencies. In addition cutting your calorie intake below 1000 calories per day will cause your body to slow down its metabolism. So even though you may be taking in less calories you may still not experience any weight loss. 6. Following fad diets. Fad diets are just that fads! Most are designed to cash in on peoples gullibility for the quick fix. The majority of fad diets recommend extreme patterns of eating. Some stress cutting carbs by 50 percent or more. Others say you can eat all the fat you want. The human body evolved to use nutrients in balance and most fad diets ignore this fact. Avoid this diet mistake and ignore fad diets. 7. Only dieting While you can lose weight by just dieting, youll lose more by dieting AND exercising. And by including regular exercise into your week theres a greater chance that the weight you lose will primarily be fat. Dieting by itself often leads to a loss of muscle mass. Exercise, especially weight training, will preserve the muscle mass while stimulating fat loss. 8. Forgetting to keep recordsBy keeping a daily record of wha t you eat, youll get a better feel for where your weaknesses are. You may think that youre eating healthy but after a few days of jotting everything down youll quickly discover where the excess calories come from. While you dont necessarily need to record your food intake for a full year, it is very valuable to periodically check your nutrient and calorie intake to prevent overeating. 9. Not taking enough water Water is probably the most important nutrient. For many people its also the most neglected. The human body is over 70 percent water by volume. You should be drinking at least 6 to 8 glasses every day. More if youre engaged in physical work or exercise and sweating profusely. 10. Carbs alone Man (or woman!) does not live by bread alone. The same can be said about carbohydrate. Thanks to some fad diets many people think that eating only carbohydrates will fulfill all their body needs and will help with weight loss. Dont forget that good fats, protein, and other essential vitamins and minerals are also required by the body for optimum health. 11. Coffee is not breakfast! For many people breakfast consists of a cup of coffee. But coffee contains virtually no calories or nutrients. It does, however contain caffeine that will dehydrate you, stress your nervous system, and interfere with sleep patterns. One or two cups of coffee throughout the day is fine but dont live on it, and dont treat it as a meal or snack. Its not. Bob Howard expert on bodybuilding and steroids. I’ll Tell You - Buddy - About the Case Study

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Jennifer Burns Admit it case study analysis is as close to you, as Mars or Venus. You know a lot about essay writing, you are an expert in writing a research paper, and your term paper writings are absolutely fantastic. But you still feel miserable, because somebody created a case study analysis paper. Dont worry; here is some case study help for you. Case Study Help. Case study analysis begins, when there is a problem that needs to be solved. In your case study writing you mention about a specific issue. It needs to be thoroughly researched. Identify the problem correctly. When writing a case study analysis, a common mistake is made. You state a problem that is not too important. It may seem like a big deal, but after a closer look it becomes evident that it is not worth your case study analysis. Or, on the other hand, an issue is so big, that its a matter of several different case study analyses. Next step in your case study writing is analyzing the information. Researches for case study analysis can be done in different ways. For example, you can draw a mind map. Use different colors to make your journey around the mind map easier. This technique is effective in case study analysis, because it helps to establish a cause-and-effect sequence correctly. A cause-and-effect sequence, in its turn, is important to answer the basic and most important question of your case study writing: why/how did this happen? You need to take a look at the numbers given in the case study analysis, and make a judgment as to their relevance to the problem identified. Not all numbers will be immediately useful or relevant, but in cases study writing you need to be careful not to overlook anything. When deciding to analyze numbers, keep in mind why you are doing it, and what you intend to do with the result. Use common sense and comparisons when making judgments as to the meaning of your answers to avoid jumping to conclusions. Another step in writing a case study analysis is thinking about the ways to solve the problem. Be realistic. There is a thousand ways to solve a problem of your case study analysis (including the most crazy and weird ones), but there can be one really good solution that is going to work. It is not a very good idea for case study writing to leave the decision-making behind. And no, you cant use an excuse that there is not enough information, or that the case study analysis is not good enough. You have the problem, researches, information make a decision. If there are several answers to you case study writing, you will need a key decision criterion. It is something that unites your case study analysis into a single piece, and gives the right solution to a problem. A key decision criterion is not a pattern. For each case study analysis it comes in different shapes. Now that you have all the components of the case study analysis, go back and make an overall check. If you see parts that fall out of the entire construction of your case study writing, or things that are not clear enough, then it is better to rewrite them. You need to end up with a well-composed and deeply researched case study analysis paper. Jennifer Burns is a professional freelance academic writer at Custom-Writing.org, custom writing service. Heavy Duty Jig N Pig Fishing

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

By Craig DeFronzo Before I get into this, lets just understand that I consider any jig 1/4oz or larger to be heavy. Catch 10,000 bass or so on a 1/16, 1/8 and 3/16oz jigs and you would also. When fishing heavy jigs, I abandon the realm of spinning tackle and move up to stout bait casting gear. This is necessary to transport your offering to nasty places and to get it back. I normally do not skip with a bait casting rod. It can be done but you must have an extremely educated thumb to prevent backlashes. I use Shimano reels exclusively. I go with either a Scorpion 1001 or a Calais Antares 101. Contrary to many other anglers, I do not use a very heavy line 10 or 12lb line fills the bill for me and can handle most situations. I like Hybrid line. Gamakatsu G-Lock is also very good for flipping. I have used Vanish fluorocarbon and I like it also. It has great abrasion resistance. I only tie my jigs on with a palomar knot. I feel this is the strongest most reliable knot anyone can tie. I rely on Kistler Helium rods. I prefer a medium action rod. The lighter line and medium action rod make this a light line method when compared to the 25 and 20lb test many guys are using. Ive been doing a ton of flipping with a 6-6 ML rod and Scorpion 1001 reel. I usually do not go above a 3/16oz jig but it is a dynamite combo. It is sheer fun. Ive never broken a rod while fishing jigs. Targeting Bass I can flip, I can Skip, I can pitch. Which is best? Do what works for you. I am more effective skipping with a spinning rod so I usually do not skip with bait casting rods. My presentation is a cross between flipping and pitching. It is a kind of under hand lob low to the water that may be skipping-like in reality. When the bait hits the water, there is very little disturbance. I am always searching for targets to hit. I will drop jigs into places many guys wont. You cant worry about losing a bait. If you do, you will handicap yourself mentally. Putting jigs in tough places can mean the difference between catching a horse and casting practice. I hit my targets from many different angles. This gives the fish a presentation it may not have seen. I see far too many guys drop a jig on a stump once or twice only to move on. I do not fish my jig back to the boat. Once I feel I have saturated the target, I reel in and cast again. Strikes range from a mushy weighty feeling to an unmistakable chomp. I learned to fish jigs by forcing myself to only take them with me while fishing. I learned early on to discern what the jig felt like on the end of my line. Anything lighter or heavier was surely a bass. This is what I have come to name Weighing the line. I learned what a 3/16oz jig feels like in the water. This strategy has helped me learn complex techniques and has definitely made me a better, more consistent angler. Lets talk about hook sets. If you are fishing a jig correctly, you will have very little slack line. It is a contact bait in which an angler must know what it is doing at all times. This makes for instantaneous hook sets and excellent sensitivity. If you feel something out of the ordinary, swing on it, hook sets are free. I set my hook hard over my right shoulder. It is violent, it is lightning quick and it gets the job done. I notice that very few anglers get the gist of the hook set in most applications. There is no pussy footing around here, set it like you mean it or go home empty handed. There really is no style to it, just speed and power. Detecting a strike will come as a natural feeling in time and with practice. The time it takes you to detect a strike and swing on it is the difference between hooking up and getting beaned in the head by your jig. A jig is made of metal and silicone. A bass will rarely hold on to it for a long period of time. Scent and salt may help increase the odds by a half second or so but it is important to set up as soon as you detect the strike. Rattles Rattles may give the angler an advantage when the water is murky or cold. I prefer to fish without rattles 95% of the time. When I use them, I prefer the strap type of collar so the rattles hang down in the skirt. This way they do not impede with my hook set. One little trick I employ is to add a small piece of sponge on the hook shank. I spray it with a bit of garlic or craw scent. I think it at least gives me the confidence to be more effective. A jig is a contact bait. It is built be used in nasty places and it is strong enough to wrestle big bass out of them. Many guys make the mistake of not attempting to penetrate deep into cover with them. By failing to do this, they decrease their chances for success. Youve got to get into the places where these fish live. Although I am a light tackle jig guy by nature, Im smart enough to realize that heavy jigs definitely have a place in my arsenal. On the other side of it, dont just use heavier baits. You will be pleasantly surprised when you tie on a light jig n pig. Craig DeFronzo has written over 300 articles that are bass fishing related within the past decade for several of the top bass fishing web sites and periodicals. He is the author of over 12 books and eBooks on bass fishing and is the creator of Micro Munch Tackle. He started a small bait company based on the belief that unique custom tackle would be more appealing to bass that are continuously bombarded by the same commercial baits every day. Hydroponics Gardening - An Introduction to Hydroponics Gardening for Beginners (part 17) Germination

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By John R. Haughton SEED GERMINATION IN THE HYDROPONICS GARDEN. Many advantages are to be gained over conventional, soil based, seed germination, by using hydroponics. The growing mediums are clean and in a lot of cases sterile, which reduces the instances of disease and infection, as well as insect attack. Soil may contain all kinds of harmful bacteria, fungal spores and insects that might harm vulnerable young plants. Root rot should also be easily avoided, using a high quality growing medium. Because the hydroponics gardener has complete control over the plants environment, it is possible to ensure that each and every aspect of the plants growth is catered for to its optimum effect. This, of course, rules out the inconsistencies in the weather and avoids problems such as late frosts and storms etc. The subsequent advantage to the plants is an ideal climate in which to grow strong and healthy. This leads, eventually, to greater and better quality yields. A lot of seeds contain their own nutrients and require only water and Oxygen in order to sprout. It is important to realize that using a nutrient solution can and often will either retard or block the seeds ability to germinate. Once it has sprouted and has reached a point where it has viable leaves, then it can be fed using a weak nutrient solution. One species of plant that has very little nutrient within the seed is the Orchid, so, as you can see, it is important to research your plants prior to germination in order to minimize any stress to the plant. The choice of growing medium is important when dealing with seedlings and young clones. It must provide the young plant with water and Oxygen in adequate quantities, while not allowing it to become waterlogged. Drainage is very important at this time and the porous growing mediums have excellent properties in this area. Perlite, Vermiculite and Rockwool all offer great drainage properties together with the major advantage, in the case of Rockwool, of coming in nice little cubes with holes in for your seeds. The beauty of these cubes is that they can be transplanted straight into larger Rockwool cubes or other mediums as the seedling grows, thus cutting down on the plants stress and on the transplanters time. It is better to plant the germinated seeds in a medium with a built in weak nutrient and to add water only. When the seedlings are established you can then start them in a weaker version of your normal nutrient and gradually increase the strength until you are running at normal strength nutrient. This system can be ongoing, with germinating seeds being brought on at regular intervals to replace plants that have reached their fruiting stage and been cropped. Copyright (C) 2006.
