Party Favors that Add that Unique Touch to Your Celebration

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

By Kelli Mahoney One of the finest touches to any party is a party favor. When you are doing your planning, you should try to leave a little room in your budget to have your guests leave your party with a little something. The party favors can range from items that only cost you a few cents to baskets full of goodies (think Oscar-size packages here!). Still, the more unique your party favors are, the more memorable your event will be. Cookies Yes, cookies may not be the first thing you think of when you are trying to come up with unique party favors, but really, cookie designs have come a long way. Having a Superbowl party? Why not order cookies shaped like your teams helmets. You can get them personalized for each guest. For a wedding you can order cookies in your colors and theme with just about anything written on them. You can even get fortune cookies specially designed with your own personal fortunes. Wine and Alcohol If you are having an adult party, personalized wine bottles are an excellent gift. You can order wine from a local vineyard and use a pen to personalize each bottle. Or some wineries allow you to personalize the label itself. You can also offer mixers, champagne buckets, bottle openers, and more as specialized gifts. Books that include some of the drinks you offered at your party are always a nice party favor, too. Personalized Food Personalized candy is always a hit. You can purchase mint tins that have personalized labels, or even your own chocolate bars. Some people may even opt for their own monogrammed petit fours, and others choose personalized hot sauces. Accessories We all loved getting those monogrammed bracelets when we were younger, so why not bring them back? Today many companies offer updated versions with all kinds of personalized charms. You can get embroidered handbags, jewelry boxes, and even personalized tissues. On a Budget If you are on a budget, your local dollar store can be your best friend. Lets say you are throwing a beach party. You can buy pairs of flip-flops to hand out to each guest. Just make special name tags to give them an extra touch. Party favors do not have to be extravagant - they just need to be thoughtful. It is a way of saying Thank You! to your guests for coming to your party, which will make any party a hit. Churches To Close Doors On Sunday Christmas Day

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

By Ed Shettlemore What Do you mean closing there doors? Close doors on Sunday! What in Gods wisdom are they thinking of? Well certainly not it being Sunday. No its Christmas day they are referring to. And though there reasons are not spiritual they make sense; surprisingly are supported by spirituals. In spite of this that is not why, at least in my opinion they may finally have got it right. Yep its that history thing again. That subject we pay so little attention to. The beautiful rendition of Christs birth by Luke the Physician and Christs historian: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the entire world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David :) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:1-11 For today’s Christian, the origin of Christmas is, and should be, the birth of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible; they should accept nothing neither more nor nothing less. However, most of what we witness and celebrate each December 25 regardless of which day it falls has absolutely nothing to do with that blessed day, which probably occurred in late summer or early fall about 2,000 years ago. In fact, most of the customs and traditions of Christmas actually pre-date the birth of Jesus, and many of them are downright deceptive in their meaning and origin: The date of December 25th believed to have been the ancient “birthday” of the son-god, Mithra, a pagan deity whose religious influence became widespread in the Roman Empire during the first few centuries A.D.; who was related to the Semitic sun-god, Shamash, and his worship spread throughout Asia to Europe where he was called Deus Sol Invictus Mithras. Rome being well-known for absorbing the pagan religions and rituals of its widespread empire, converted this pagan legacy to a celebration of the god, Saturn, and the rebirth of the sun god during the winter solstice period. The winter holiday began the week prior to December 25th became known as Saturnalia. The festival was characterized by gift-giving, feasting, singing and downright debauchery, as the priests of Saturn carried wreaths of evergreen boughs in procession throughout the Roman temples. Variations of this pagan holiday flourished throughout the first few centuries after Jesus Christ; it is believed that in 336 AD that Emperor Constantine with his own conversion to Christianity officially converted this pagan tradition into the “Christian” holiday of Christmas. Again writing about a religous yet most historical event proves informative and fun. The Simplest Business Card Ideas Are Always The Best

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

By Josh Barkin Innovative business card ideas are often misunderstood. The key message intended for prospective customers becomes lost in radical attempts at originality. These attempts at originality can in fact have a negative impact on prospective customers, invoking a deeper discussion about the actual design and presentation of your business card, rather than how your business can actually help others succeed. The last thing you want to encourage when handing out your business card are more questions about what your business does, or why you chose such an idea for your business card in the first place. Many design and communication firms will attempt to awe and inspire others with radical and non-traditional business card designs. Ironically, these companies exist to help you better communicate a clear message. To develop your business card ideas, start by creating a simple business tag line. Grab a piece of paper and pen and start to develop a tag line that either captures the essence of your business, or at the very least, is a broad statement of your business vision, your goal, or something which convinces people that you are a leader in your industry. Sometimes called a “motto”, or in more professional circles, a “competency statement”, your tag line should be short, to the point, sometimes catchy, but always memorable. As an example, this tag line, belonging to an enormously successful Canadian mattress manufacturer, “Why Buy a Mattress Anywhere Else”, is clear and to the point and the tag line is an integral part of their marketing campaign, used across mediums including, print, television, radio and the Internet. Other tag lines are more abstract, but memorable, such as the McDonald’s campaign, “I’m Loving It!”. A tag line can be simple, as long as it can be used to help build trust in the customer. For example, Jim Smith, Certified Programmer, or, Eric Gibson, Professional Photographer. There is no rule for the tag line, just keep it tasteful, positive, clear, and to the point. Photo business card images are gaining momentum among business card designs, because people have a tendency to remember visuals over text. For example, if you are a wedding planner, even subtle, full color imagery can be effective to communicate a message without words and can create a lasting first impression. You may utilize a background image of a couple in love at the alter, a detailed and elaborate wedding hall, or a bride in reflection decked in her bridal gown. The right image selection can visually communicate your industry or area of expertise, and then encourage the card holder to read the details. Many websites offer a free, online business card maker which can help you develop your business card ideas and experiment with language and presentation using point and click web-based tools. Before you commit to going to print, you should forward your ideas to friends and colleagues in order to solicit their feedback and ensure your business card is one that will not be thrown away. —————– Josh Barkin is the Director of Marketing for Professor Print, a leader in online business printing and design. Nursing Abuse Lawyer Says: Widespread Abuse Can Be Stopped Find a Nursing Home Abuse/Neglect Lawyer

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

By Margaret Wommack It is always painful to part with a loved one, particularly a family member who is ill, but millions of Americans find that they cannot care for the needs of their relations and are forced to find a nursing home in which they can live. The selection of a good nursing home that will attentively care for their needs can be difficult, and many are misled into choosing the wrong home. It is estimated that around 35,000 elderly people die prematurely in nursing homes every year due to neglect or abuse. And while many will blame themselves for selecting the wrong nursing home for their elderly loved one, the fault lies entirely with the nursing home operator, who should be held accountable. Nursing homes are obligated to have enough staff members to provide all of the care listed in the plan. The Nursing Home Reform Act requires nursing homes to provide services and activities to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each nursing home resident in accordance with a written plan of care. However, nursing homes frequently ignore this responsibility of theirs and residents are not cared for. Neglect of this sort includes not being assisted to the toilet, being left in bed to develop bedsores, malnutrition, dehydration, being over or under medicated, not being properly cleaned, and generally being ignored. This neglect, both intentional and unintentional, causes serious injury that could result in the premature death of the resident. Outright, intentional abuse of nursing home residents includes emotional, financial, psychological, sexual and verbal abuse, not just physical abuse. Sexual abuse includes any unwanted sexual contact, forced nudity, inappropriate photography, or battery. Physical abuse can include battery, unreasonable and dangerous restraints, inappropriate use of drugs on a patient, and refusing to help or transport a resident. Emotional (psychological, mental) abuse includes verbal harassment, intimidation, ignoring and excluding the resident, and isolating him or her from friends and family who live in or come to visit the nursing home. Of course, not all forms of abuse are listed here, so consult with an attorney if you feel that you or your family member is being abused or neglected. Anything trauma, whether emotional, physical, or social, which a nursing home resident sustains which could have been prevented or was caused by the staff is a criminal offense and if you or a loved family member has suffered nursing home abuse or neglect, you should find a nursing home abuse/neglect lawyer who can prosecute those who are guilty. However, due to time constraints (statute of limitations), it is important to speak to an attorney and file the suit as quickly as possible. Help stop nursing home abuse, neglect, and malpractice and be compensated for your or your family members injury. Talk to a nursing home abuse/neglect lawyer today!
